…merges the tranquil beauty of the Norwegian fjords with the vibrant complexities of Berlin’s cityscape. With her debut album SALT, the alt-folk singer embarks on a relentless pursuit of connection, and invites the listener in through her soul-stirring melodies and poetic storytelling.

The making of SALT
At the beginning of 2023, I went to Kaspar Kaae’s studio in Copenhagen to start recording my debut album, SALT. The songs were written the year before, and the project had taken its shape from philosophical conversations with friends and a craving for connection after the pandemic years. Salt works as an image of the interconnectedness of all things – a corrosive and cleansing essence that enhances, binds and seeps through us all.
I had two studio sessions in Copenhagen, and in the autumn I continued recording on my own in Berlin. In January 2024 I was lucky enough to get Brian Speaker in to mix and help me finish the album. I recorded the remaining songs with great people at the Famous Gold Watch in February. David Georgos mastered the record.
SALT is now out on vinyl, Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms.

About
Norwegian alt-folk · Berlin
iris had a musical upbringing 100 meters from the sea in Frosta, Norway, and has spent her 20’s pursuing her artistry and working as a baker in Berlin.
She has been performing live shows and connecting with audiences for years. The multi-instrumentalist sings in weddings, bars, theatres and gardens, sometimes with her fiddle and usually with her silver resonator guitar or her red electric. She has roots in Nordic folk music and is trained in Complete Vocal Technique.
In her solo project iris mar, she pours her heart and soul into a world that is her very own. She composes music for dance performances and film.

- Lausonga A duo with Hans Mikkel Melhus — strumming strings and singing harmonies in Norwegian.
- Shaken Baby Experimental project with Conor Cunningham, where rhythmic fiddle and effected saxophone meet poetry in Norwegian.
- Marie Mill Earlier project: the singles Sleeping Beauty (2020) and Sunshine (2021).
